Comments: I stayed 5 nights in 2 different rooms at Mimi del Mar Hotel and it was an excellent value. This is a beach front property where all room have a partial view of the ocean. It’s great to wake up and walk only a few step to sit back in a long chair and enjoy the beach. The pool is more of a decoration as it is very small and narrowed. A man offers a massage service on a table next to the beach most morning. The first morning I had breakfast at the hotel bar/restaurant right on the beach for 6.50$. I had a fresh orange juice, 3 toasts with jam, beans with an omelette (a bit uncooked) and a black tea that tasted bad but overall this meal was a good value. I still don’t understand why I did not get the breakfast included when I paid the list price that said it was. Is it because I have booked through worldlinks.com? The Hotel is very well located a few steps from all the action of Playa Del Carmen and fifth Avenue but it’s not too close to the clubbing area so when you come back at night it is quite enough to easily fall asleep. But don’t expect sound proof rooms. You can hear people talking and walking in the corridor and slamming their room door that don’t close easily. One evening there was a live band playing outdoor nearby and I could not do my usual siesta. It was also very close from a diving company on 4th street and a beach activity rental place called “Wahoo” that is directly on the beach. This last place charged me 20$ to rent a Kayak for 2 hours and would not let me rent it for 1 hour at 10$. I did not appreciate that. I had a very small TV install very high up close to the ceiling in the room and it was hard on the neck after 30 min of TV watching but it was better than not having any. I had a phone and a safe as well as a small fridge that was very convenient to keep water and fruits fresh and cold. I also used the kitchenette but it was not working too well. The pot and pan left for use are old and I also could not get boiling water and the stove was not powerful enough. I asked for a hairdryer at the front desk because they don’t offer one in the room. The rooms are clean enough. It is not a modern or recent construction and it doesn’t offer have any luxuries but it was satisfying at 100$ a night (high season). The walls and the ceiling are stucco and the floor artisanal a bit uneven ceramic. If you arrive at night some of the bright white neon lighting is not flattering for the room. The queen size bed in room 101 was more comfortable than the king in room 103 that was very hard. If I go back to Playa on a budget I will try to book this hotel for sure and I will recommend it to my friends.

Comments: I stayed 6 nights in 2 different rooms at TCB. The hotel slogan is “The feel good hotel”. A place to relax and get away from chaos. I am afraid that the hotel mission statement cannot be accomplished as it is located literally next door to Playa Del Carmen clubbing epicentre. We are talking many huge open air bars and clubs. The main intersection of where everybody goes to drink, dance and party till 4-5 in the morning. I would strongly advise NOT to stay in room 15, 14 and 13 since they are overlooking the streets of that intersection. They also have a Martini club right underneath them (it was under construction when I was there). At night, in room 15, you can almost feel the base pounding in your chest at time. So my two first night did not made me “feel good” but made me want to kill those DJ’s! I got moved to room 12 after mentioning the loud noises and the problem was solved. I could still hear a bit of music but nothing like the other room and I could easily fall asleep at anytime. The hotel front desk entrance with its big coffee table and 3 sofas under a big palapa roof is very welcoming and beautiful. The staff wear smiles and are very friendly. The hotel is all white and is surrounding a very luscious exotic garden. A nice little paradise that is very peaceful (before the clubs open). The rooms are also all white and very clean. I had one double bed, a small wood table with 2 chairs and a small fridge that was very convenient for water and fruits. The bed smelled nice and was comfortable. I enjoyed the nice chenille throw that was on top of it and the bathrobe too. The bathroom was clean and pleasant. I would recommend bringing your own shampoo and conditioner as those offered have essential oil in them that leave a greasy residue on the hair. I was disappointed that there was no TV, no telephone, no hairdryer and no safe in the rooms. I went to Wall Mart and got a hairdryer for 15$ but really was not happy about the extra spending since I already have one at home and it’s so cheap that most hotel offer one it the room knowing people don’t want to pack their luggage with these kinds of essential items. The hotel owner was very helpful and went out of her way to lend me her DVD player and she and one of the front desk employee lend me DVD. I really appreciated it. I traveled alone so I needed some entertainment at certain time of day like when returning from my afternoon at the beach or when I return after a late dinner in the evening. Coffee is offered at the front desk each morning and on Saturdays they arrange a very good buffet with chicken, fish, salad and pasta next to the pool for only 10$. I wish they would have done this every night because it was very pleasant. This is not a beach front property but it is only a few step away from it. It has a big pool where scuba diving lessons are giving in the morning by the diving company that is associated with the hotel and located right next to it. If I go back to Playa on a budget I would stay at this hotel as my second choice after Mimi Del Mar that offered for the same price (100$/night) beach front, beach chairs/bar/restaurant, TV, phone, safe, kitchenette and hairdryer.
