7 Best Riviera Maya Beach Clubs from Tulum to Puerto Morelos
How do you prefer to spend your time on the beach?
With a blanket and a book under some random palm tree or at a beach club with chairs, shade, food, and cold drinks?
For those of you who prefer the amenities of a beach club, this article’s for you.
Previously, I wrote about the 12 best beach clubs in Playa del Carmen.
We’ve also made our list of the top 5 budget beach clubs in town.
This time around, however, I’m going to recommend my favorite Riviera Maya beach clubs.
7 Best Beach Clubs in the Riviera Maya
There are a lot of great places to go for a nice day at the beach up and down the 86-mile corridor that stretches north from Puerto Morelos south down to Tulum.
To avoid making this list too extensive, I am sticking to just one beach club per destination.
That doesn’t mean that other beach clubs aren’t worthy, just that I’ve either never been or decided to focus on one over the other.
I’ll start from south to north.
#1 Papaya Playa Project (Tulum)

Tulum has become the hipster destination par excellence in the Riviera Maya.
The town’s chic, Bohemian vibe combined with some of the best stretches of beach in the entire Caribbean make a visit to this gorgeous town a no-brainer.
Papaya Playa offers a spacious and hip beach club and restaurant where you can while away the day, drink in hand, soaking in the beautiful Caribbean vibes.

#2 Chamico’s (Soliman Bay)
Chamico’s is not the most well-known of the Riviera Maya beach clubs, but it’s definitely one of my favorites.
Set off at the end of a dirt road about 8 miles north of the Tulum ruins, this expansive restaurant and beach club rocks.
Tables, loungers, hammocks, cold beer, and good food characterize this hidden oasis.
And for those unaware of the Bahía de Soliman, or Soliman Bay, this shallow bay is protected by a nearby reef.
The water here is shallow and calm, which also makes it a great option for families.
#3 La Buena Vida (Akumal)
No more apt of a name could have been chosen for this wonderful beach club in Akumal.
Because this place is all about the good life, and living it up at the beach.
In addition to everything else that makes La Buena Vida one of the best beach clubs in the entire Riviera Maya, this place stands out (or up) thanks to the tree houses built on the top of the palm trees where you can hang out for some drinks while taking in the view of the beautiful bay.
#4 La Playa (Xpu-Ha)
Not far to the south of Playa del Carmen lies a stretch of beach that is popular with locals and some tourists, but has never been overrun by tourism.
Xpu-Ha has wide swaths of white sand beach and a nice, relaxing vibe.
Never too crowded and with a great beach club at La Playa, this is the place when you want to get away from the people and parties of Playa del Carmen.
#5 Canibal Royal (Playa del Carmen)
It’s not easy just having to pick one Playa del Carmen beach club.
There are many great spots here to relax and have some drinks on the beach, but if I have to pick just one…
Canibal Royal may not have the best stretch of beach, in fact it’s quite small in comparison to some others.
However, this beach club gets the pick because of its cool vibe.
A retro, 50’s style ambiance with good food and beautiful views make this my favorite beach club to just chill out with some drinks and a fresh ceviche.
#6 Maroma Adventures (Maroma beach)
Not everyone knows this, but the beaches at Maroma are considered to be the best in the entire Mexican Caribbean.
A tall feat, indeed, but one these wide stretches of white sand beaches live up to easily.
You have to pay to get into this part of the beach, but you’ll get access to all the activities and amenities offered by Maroma Adventures.
However, to be honest, the real attraction is just simply hanging out for some food and drinks at this stunning tribute to Mother Nature.
#7 Unico Beach (Puerto Morelos)
Unico Beach is one of my favorite places to go hang out at for a day at the beach.
The vibe here is spectacular.
Puerto Morelos may not boast the same stunning blue hues as the town’s neighbors to the north and south, but this charming town halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen has a lot going for it.
The atmosphere here is that of a small village, and Unico Beach is the place where locals and tourists meet for some good food, cold drinks, and live music.
