Lost Acapulco
It’s about to get down and dirty in Playa del Carmen. Surf style.
This Saturday, April 16, Zanzibar World Music Productions and Coco Maya Beach Club proudly present Sonido Tecnicos vs. Rudos. Yes, Mexican kitsch will be on display in Playa and it’s gonna be loud and painful. Featuring Lost Acapulco, Surfing Munsters, Corte Circuito, Los RIPpers, and DJ Netza 11, the event starts at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at Coco Maya Beach Club.
A mixture of bad-ass surf music, and of course some spectacular aerial flips, bad-mouthed rudos (the bad guys), and masked heroes, the headliners of the event are none other than the legendary Mexican surf band Lost Acapulco.
Formed in 1996, Lost Acapulco is a cult band in Mexico and is a pioneer of Mexican surf music. The group’s rockin’ masked crusaders have had several European and U.S. tours and starred on numerous occasions at Vive Latino.
Opening bands at the Sonido Tecnicos vs. Rudos event include Cancun-based Surfing Munsters, Corte Circuito from Chetumal, and Los RIPpers (Merida).
In tribute to the horror movies of lore, The Surfing Munsters describe their sound as horror surf. For their part, Corte Circuito promises to get the crowd moving with a fusion of ragamuffin and ska. Merida-based Los RIPpers will bring their otherworldly vibe to share with us mere mortals.
And if some great Mexican surf music isn’t enough to get you to the show, perhaps the live lucha libre will.
If you’ve never been to a lucha libre event before, you have no idea what you’re missing. This isn’t WWF, Donald Drumpf style bravado and slick performances that look like they were staged in Hollywood.
This is the real deal.
A fight between good, represented by the técnicos, and evil, represented by the villainous rudos. The eternal struggle will be played out on white sand beaches in front of the Caribbean Sea, with surf music to set the ambiance for this never-ending battle for our souls.
Some of the wrestlers who will be laying a world of hurt on their counterparts include Chikitin, Azhor, Black Jason, the Galactic Knight, Diva de Cristal and Angelus Fly, among others.
Will good triumph over for the forces of evil, or will the cheating villains continue to steal away our smiles?
We’ll find out on Saturday.
Tickets are $250 pesos at the door and will be worth every single centavo. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
In the meantime, check out some of their music:
