For my experience hotel and accommodation in Cancun and the Riviera Maya can be broken up into:

- Rentals (Airbnb type accommodation, there are A LOT of these in Cancun and Playa del Carmen…self-catering etc, better for long-term stays)
- Affordable All-Inclusives (great for families and commonly includes resorts such as Sandos and Riu, etc)
- 4-5* All-Inclusives (typical go-to resorts include Paradisus, the Hilton, etc – this is the kind of hotel most adult groups look for when travelling to the Mexican Caribbean)
