Only 200 visitors daily are permitted to visit the National Park of Isla Contoy. Boats leave from Cancun and depending on the type of vessel the trip should take 1-2 hours.
Apart from the picturesque beaches and beauty, it is considered the most important nesting place for sea birds in the Mexican Caribbean, having counted 152 species of birds.
It is also an important nesting place for sea turtles, with four endangered species nesting in Contoy from April to October. Sting rays also swim alongside the visitors in the shallow waters surrounding the island.
