Mayan Ruins
A visit to the Mayan ruins is a must when visiting the Riviera Maya.
Note: You should make your choice in which one(s) to visit based on your enthusiasm for visiting archaeological sites, and how entertained you are by standing in front of pyramids learning about the fascinating culture of the Mayas.
Some tours are longer than others, which is another factor to take into consideration.
As mentioned above, some also combine a visit to Mayan ruins with other activities.
See our blog for more information on where are the Mayan ruins.
1) Coba Ruins
Coba is one of the cooler Mayan ruins to visit due to its location set off in the jungle.
Why is it the coolest?
- You can climb the largest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula
- You can rent a bike to tour the ancient city.
The excursion itself only takes up to about 2 to 2.5 hours, which leaves you time to do something else.
In this case, you can combine a tour of Coba with a visit to a Mayan village where you can enjoy the town’s beautiful lagoon, cenotes, and jungle paths on the Coba Mayan Encounter.
